Higher Achievement Champions,
You have read the headlines about the President’s budget blueprint and its drastic cuts to domestic programs. What has not yet made the headlines is what this budget would mean for Higher Achievement and thousands of education programs like us around the country. Today, I am writing to ask you to devote 10 minutes to learn and share your voice.
Higher Achievement depends on two important programs, 21st Century Community Learning Center grants and AmeriCorps, both of which are slated for elimination in the President’s budget.
To protect 21st Century Community Learning Centers like Higher Achievement, and preserve afterschool programming for 1.6 million children across the country, please click here to share your voice with your elected representatives. This program currently grants $700,000 annually to Higher Achievement across DC, MD, and VA.
The Corporation for National and Community Service places tens of thousands of Americans each year who wish to devote their lives to public service. At Higher Achievement we gratefully host 11 AmeriCorps Members and VISTA volunteers who are deeply committed to advancing our work across all of our communities. We ask that you share your concerns about cutting this vibrant, vital program here.
One of Higher Achievement’s four social justice pillars is VOICE. We teach our scholars that their voice matters and should be heard. That applies to all of us too. It is our hope that our voices, combined with many others, will make the difference we need.
In service,
Lynsey Wood Jeffries
Higher Achievement CEO
