7th grade scholar Jordan’s determination and enthusiasm exemplify the Higher Achievement spirit. Despite her busy athletic schedule, including cheer and volleyball commitments, Jordan’s commitment to education led her to join Higher Achievement in 6th grade after hearing about it from friends.
“Higher Achievement is a program that gives you opportunities and helps you prepare for the future. It gives you everything you need to succeed,” affirms Jordan. “I wanted to learn new things,” she adds. “It helps us with homework and we get to do fun activities too.”
Participating in Higher Achievement has opened doors for Jordan to explore diverse interests through field trips and electives, including cooking and art. “You don’t have to just do that one thing. It’s good to try something new,” says Jordan.
Jordan has her eyes set on the future, and she understands the importance of her middle school years. At Higher Achievement, Jordan and her peers work closely alongside a mentor to identify their interests for high school, college, and career. “I like to do things that challenge me,” says Jordan. “I want to get a good scholarship to get into a good college.” Jordan is currently involved in student government and hopes to continue her involvement in high school and college.
She is already putting those plans for the future into action. “When I do my homework at Higher Achievement, I get help. It encourages me to try my best and keep doing it. I ask my teachers if there’s anything I can do to get my grades up. Extra work, tutoring – I’m willing to do it!”
Jordan’s hard work is already paying off. Her dedication recently earned her a Principal’s Award for getting all As, and hopes to see even more 7th graders join her on the award stage. Jordan actively encourages her peers through friendly competitions to earn “positive behavior” points at school for demonstrating her school’s values of resilience, integrity, pride, and empathy.
Beyond academics, Higher Achievement has become a supportive community that uplifts Jordan in all aspects of her life. “The staff are always there to greet us and make hard days feel brighter with a hug or encouragement. It’s mentors and other scholars too. If I feel bad, they make me feel better,” says Jordan. “Higher Achievement taught me to feel more confident. Not just self-confidence, but also more socially aware.”
The impact of Higher Achievement extends far beyond the middle school years for students like Jordan. Through mentorship, academic support, and a nurturing community, Higher Achievement empowers scholars to envision and pursue ambitious futures while building the skills and confidence needed to achieve them. As Jordan continues her educational journey, the foundation she’s building today will support her aspirations for tomorrow. In her own words, “Higher Achievement gives me opportunities and options”—a testament to Higher Achievement’s lasting influence on scholars’ bright futures.
