Greetings! I am elated to join the Higher Achievement family as the Executive Director of DC Metro. This opportunity allows me to continue to pursue my passion and purpose which is to ensure Black and brown students receive the exposure, access, and opportunities they deserve to make critical academic and life decisions.
I began this pursuit 26 years ago in Far Rockaway, New York, a small town in the Borough of Queens where the poor, working-class, and middle-class all collided in an 8-mile-long city to survive and thrive. Because of non-profit organizations like Higher Achievement and committed educators in schools, I thrived! Today, I am a first-generation college graduate who has earned a Ph.D. and had an opportunity to partner with many organizations and school districts across the country to help shape how learning and living happen for thousands of students. I strongly believe in the transformative power of education and look forward to working with the DC Metro team, our scholars, families, funders, schools, and communities to leave an indelible impact.
Since my arrival at Higher Achievement on December 5, 2022, I have been familiarizing myself with all the wonderful work done by my predecessor, visiting our Centers and speaking with staff, scholars and mentors, meeting with organizational partners, and connecting with the generous donors and funders who make our very important work possible. Stay tuned for a sharing of these experiences and my preliminary thoughts and vision for our work in the DC Metro area!
