My name is Tyler. I am a Higher Achievement Scholar. I am from Baltimore, Maryland. I’m 13-years old and I’m in the 8th grade. I live at home with my mom, dad, and older sister.
I am creative, outgoing, positive, and wise beyond my years.
When I grow up I want to be an engineer. I’m very good at math. I also like building things. I will take things apart at home just to put them back together again.
I’m most inspired by my father. We are very close. He was going through a hard time when I was born because he was battling cancer. Even though he was in and out of the hospital, he still managed to go to college and push through to graduate with a business degree. I learned from my father that I can do anything I put my mind to.
If I could change one thing about the world, I would change racism because I don’t think anyone should be discriminated against because of the color of their skin. We’re activists in our house and we encourage people to vote.
Higher Achievement is my safe haven. It’s a whole different world inside these walls. Higher Achievement helped me grow and find myself. Being here keeps me sane. In my community, everything can feel so hectic. It’s heartbreaking to see my community going the way it is. I do feel hopeful though, it can get better if everyone does their part. Kids need to stay in school and stop doing drugs. I see the promise and potential in people though, I am hopeful it will get better.
