Thank you to Mayor Catherine E. Pugh, WBAL’s Tim Tooten and our incredible, mentors, staff, donors, and partners who joined us at last night’s Love Out Loud! Each and every audience member also made a difference last night simply by hearing our scholars’ words.
In case you missed it, scholars from each of our Baltimore Achievement Centers shared moving, original works of poetry in front of a packed audience! Here are some of our favorite moments from that night.
Is it really so hard for us to respect one another?
We have so many things that should make our generation proud.
Let’s show them how we Love Out Loud.
-Carmen, 8th grade scholar
Looking for love, she stood on her two long legs,
like she has never tripped over her mountain of mistakes.
She learned how to walk like an angel.
-Kenniyah, 6th grade scholar
Before I met you, it was just me and our mother.
Every day, I give you hugs and kisses.
I love you more than my video game discs.
Things have been different since you came –
you are now part of my hall of fame.
-Stev’fon, 6th grade scholar
If you’re feeling inspired and are interested in getting more involved, come join us at center! We will be hosting information sessions on 25th at our Commodore John Rodgers Achievement Center and on April 19th at our South Baltimore Achievement Center (Carter G. Woodson Elementary/Middle School). All sessions will run from 5:30-7pm. You will have the opportunity to join our scholars for their nightly Community Meeting and then learn more about our mission, vision, and outcomes from Volunteer Engagement Coordinator, Janeanne Levenstein. Please RSVP to Janeanne with the session you would like to attend.
