Remembering Beth Horowitz

Remembering Beth Horowitz (pictured, left)

Last week, Higher Achievement lost an ardent champion and generous supporter, Beth Horowitz.  Back in 2006, we met Beth’s beloved husband, Larry, serendipitously as we were wrapping holiday gifts at the (now closed) Barnes and Noble on M Street in Georgetown.  After learning about our mission, Larry left a generous gift-wrapping tip and business card, and their family’s support for Higher Achievement’s work with middle school scholars in marginalized communities has been both generous and unwavering ever since.  Through major victories and very challenging times at Higher Achievement, the Horowitz family – Larry, Beth, Peter, Jane, and Kaj – have been there for us, for nearly 20 years.

Beth’s sharp intellect and work ethic demonstrated itself at Velsor Properties, and also shined brightly with her deep concern for children and our mission.  Every conversation with her was filled with inquiry and insight. She also shared her passion for dance, especially from her native Denmark, with our staff – demonstrating her generosity yet again.

We are so grateful for her and her family’s support, as we celebrate her life and honor her memory.
