April is National Volunteer Month. This is a time for every organization to reflect on all the hard work that volunteers do to support their mission. Here at Higher Achievement, we want to recognize our amazing mentors and one time volunteers for everything that they do.
As you can imagine, mentors are a vital piece of the Higher Achievement puzzle. We expect a lot from our mentors, from coming to center once a week to teaching our social justice curriculum and helping with middle school math problems to staying late for events like Love Out Loud and our biweekly mentor lounges. This is the type of service and commitment to community that we want to take this month to celebrate and shine light on. Our dedicated mentors are the reason that our scholars have a 95% graduation rate as compared to the 69% rate of their peers in Baltimore. That’s definitely something to celebrate!
During National Volunteer Week (April 15-21), Higher Achievement and many other amazing organizations across the country will be volunteering to give back to the communities that give so much to us. Join Higher Achievement on April 15th (Good Deeds Day) as we work with Jewish Volunteer Connection, one of our partner organizations, to serve the Baltimore community. Lastly, Higher Achievement would like to say a huge THANK YOU to all of our volunteers. Our work would not be possible without your commitment to our vision and mission. Volunteers have helped out in a great many ways; mentoring, rebuilding and painting our schools, tutoring, helping our scholars to excel in math and reading, working on social and emotional skills and many other tasks. Because of these invaluable contributions, we are excited to extend a big, public “Thank you, volunteers! We admire you!”
