Richmond is opening not one – but two – new achievement centers at Binford Middle School and Wilder Middle School. Between the two centers we look forward to working with 120 new scholars in our first year starting with Summer Academy in a few facts. Here are ten facts about the area and our newest achievement centers!
Binford Achievement Center
1. For the 2015 school year, Binford welcomed three new initiatives to assist students in becoming 21st center learners. Binford students participate in a newly designed approach for arts integration instruction, the College Board’s AP SpringBoard curriculum design for math and english, and will pilot the district’s first one to one technology initiative.
2. In 2015, Binford celebrated their 100th anniversary. This school was the fifth junior high school in the United States, and was founded in 1915.
3. Binford is located in the historic Fan district of Richmond, Virginia. It is named after its fan-like shape to spanning west from Belvidere Street, to the eastern edge of Monroe Park, and west to the Boulevard.
4. Binford Middle School is located near Virginia Commonwealth University (5-9 minute walk), CXD where we are building a relationship so that VCU students. Partnerships with VCU ASPiRE can mentor Higher Achievement scholars.

Wilder Achievement Center
1. Over 800 students attend Wilder Middle School. Wilder Middle School was recently in Richmond Times-Dispatch for their efforts to improve school cultures, and meet state standards.
2. HCPS is the sixth largest public school division in Virginia, and is comprised of 72 schools and program centers serving 50,000 students. The division’s schools reflect the geographic diversity of Henrico County, and lie in bustling near-urban and suburban settings; small towns; and quiet rural areas.
3. Wilder Middle School is located Henrico County. The Henrico County Public School system is a diverse community with 50,000 students in 72 schools and program centers. It is the sixth largest public school division in Virginia.
4. In 1862, numerous Civil War battles were fought in Henrico County as part of the Peninsula Campaign. Some notable battles include: Seven Pines, Oak Grove, and White Oak Swamp.
5. The Wilder Achievement Center is our first achievement center in Henrico County! We are thrilled to have the opportunity to broaden our efforts in the greater Richmond area by serving more scholars than ever.
