This week we kick off Summer Academy at all four Richmond achievement centers! Scholars will spend the next six weeks taking classes in math, literature, social studies, science, electives and go on educational field trips and overnight college visits. Last summer, scholars wrote and published their original writing in achievement center magazines. Daesha L., a 6th grader at Wilder Achievement Center, wrote this creative piece on her observations of animals, insects, and plants.

A lizard is a consumer because it depends on insects in the desert for food to eat. A camel is also a consumer because it depends on water that is in its hump for survival. A cactus can be considered to be a decomposer because it can get very old and die but it can grow back. I know that a lizard is a consumer because it needs food to live. I know that a camel is a consumer be-cause it also needs water to survive and live a healthy life. I know that a cactus is a decomposer because it can get really old and die in various ways but can also come back to life.
