Who We Serve
At Higher Achievement, we call our middle school students “scholars.” Why? Because they are motivated, inspired, and looking to bridge the opportunity gap in their communities. Our scholars enter Higher Achievement with a range of academic performance levels and with varied levels of support inside and outside of their school. But all of our scholars leave our program with a strong belief in our four social justice pillars: voice, freedom, justice, and solidarity. Our organization commitment to these principles drive us to purposefully serve communities that lack opportunity. Our scholar population, with a demographic makeup of 75% African-American and 12% Latino, reflects the communities that we serve.
Why middle school? Half of students who drop out of high school do so right after middle school. Higher Achievement creates lasting change by putting individual students on a path to success during these critical years.
