October 8, 2007 – Twenty-five aspiring lawyers spent their day off school at a prominent law firm, Willkie Farr & Gallagher LLP.
The main event of the day was a mock Federal Communications Commission hearing, where middle-school-aged scholars tackled the real-life, complex legal issue of offering cable television channels as bundled packages or a la carte. Higher Achievement scholars came prepared for the debate, having read their fact patterns in advance. They played the roles of a national cable operator, a small cable television channel, a consumer advocacy group, Congress, and the Federal Communications Commissioners.
Thanks to the support of the Willkie team, the scholars honed their critical thinking and presentation skills and learned important lessons about how to become and excel in the field of law.
